As Thursday's event gets closer, we get more excited that we get to hear The Hanz Araki Band again, right here in Greensboro!

In anticipation of the event, May 14, 7:30 at Mack and Mack, we thought you'd enjoy seeing a couple of pieces from their October show at The Creative Center. It's a total coincidence that both the tracks selected have stories featuring women and ships. Enjoy!

They were such a hit the last time we hosted them, we decided to have The Hanz Araki Band back once again. For one night only, at Mack and Mack Clothing in downtown Greensboro, you can see this popular Portland, OR-based trio perform their award-winning Celtic music. Learn more about the band here, after reading a few more details about the show and our hosts, below.

The event begins at 7:30pm on May 14, 2015. Advance tickets are available here for $12 and $15 at the door. Doors open at 7pm. The event is BYOB so feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy during the performance.

Our friends will remember that Mack and Mack hosted The Collabative's very first show ever. When they expressed interest in hosting this event, after owners John and Robin Davis were disappointed to have had to miss The Hanz Araki band in October, we were thrilled to plan another event with them.

The intimate venue has become well-known, through hosting the impressive performances produced by Triad Acoustic Stage and we are honored to showcase our next event here, as well.

Celtic Artist Hanz Araki and Guest Ranford Almond Close Out The Year

Ranford Almond
Ranford Almond

The Dylanesque style of Ranford Almond, our youngest performer so far, captured the ears, hearts and minds of many in the audience on Friday October 3rd at The Creative Center as The Collabative's last show of 2014 got underway. Ranford presented original songs mixed with some classics that had people singing along in their seats and clapping enthusiastically at the end of each selection. Ranford seems to already know where he wants to go with is music and his original material and choices of cover songs played well to his talent level and skills.

Hanz Araki took the stage after Ranford, along with vocalist / percussionist Colleen Raney and guitarist/ vocalist Cary Novotny and proceeded to transport everyone on a wonderful musical journey through rousing Irish story telling songs like "Valentine O'hara", "My Jolly Roving Tar" and a little ditty"Hanging On To Me Four and Nine" (or something very close to that!), beautiful instrumentals filled with flute and acoustic guitar and the occasional song which showcased Colleen Raney's splendid voice. Hanz was in North Carolina promoting his latest CD "Foreign Shore". Needless to say, the night went long and there were claps, hoots and hollers and of course a plea for an encore, which our personable guests were happy to oblige.

It was a bittersweet moment as the trio took their final bows. The scene is a delightful one of happy faces caught up in conversations around the room, the band selling CD's and greeting guests, the rattle of chairs folding and and plates clanging in the sink, the bustle of activity as our "house" for our shows is dismantled and the room turns back into an art gallery. Those images from that night and every show this year will have to tide us over till?... the next one!

Ranford Almond, former Showcase of Original Music participant, returns

We are pleased to welcome back an old friend to perform for us. Back in 2012 when The Showcase of Original Music (the precursor to The Collabative) was in full swing, we had an open mic participant who made an instant impact on the audience the night he performed. His name?... Ranford Almond and he will play the opening set for the Hanz Araki Celtic music show starting at 8pm on October 3, 2014 at The Creative Center in Greensboro.

As a young boy Ranford wanted nothing more than to play the guitar but there was no guitar small enough for his four year old hands. Instead he started learning to play the violin. Eventually he grew to be "guitar-sized" and his wish finally came true. With an instrument he could sing along with, he blossomed into the singer - songwriter that was the source of his dreams. Call it a knack, or raw talent... both are true to some extent, but to that he has applied hours of practice and attention to the song crafting process along with the help of his father David Almond. That four year old is now in his teens and has the stage credentials and performing experience of artists much older and more involved in the local music scene. You might call him an "Old Soul" for his song writing and delivery speak like a person who has put in more time on this earth than his age attests.

See a little of Ranford's story in the video below...

We know you'll love this budding artist. Read more about the event and RSVP here.
