It's hard to believe that almost a year has gone by since I first posed the idea to Shana Tucker about having her come to Greensboro to perform. I'd started with the assumption that she still lived in Chapel Hill, NC. and therefore would be readily available to jaunt the few miles between our respective cities with reasonable notice in advance. Boy was I wrong. Come to find out, she was living in Las Vegas and was now a member of the cast of KÀ, a Cirque du Soliel show at the Loews MGM Grand Hotel. Needless to say, it was divine intervention that led us to finding her not only in the state of North Carolina, but with a opening in her schedule on September 27th, 2013. So the date was set and the countdown has ticked away until we are now just 2 short days away from that performance.
In case you missed the latest news, Shana has accepted an invitation by professor Dave Fox - curator of the "Improvising Music Series" at Greensboro College - to do a clinic for some of the music students at 2:30 pm the afternoon before the show. This clinic is also open to the public, so if you have time and like to see behind-the-scenes kind of stuff, this clinic fits the bill. Here's how Shana describes her planned presentation:
"I'll be working with students in a workshop discussing the nuances of subtle-yet-effective vocalist-as-bandleader cues."
During her featured artist interview with Kris Ferris, (which we'd love to have online before the show, so fingers crossed,) opening act Annalise Stalls expressed her excitement about the upcoming show, acknowledging Shana's talent while expressing gratitude for the support Shana has shown for her in return. These two ladies and their band mates will create a memorable musical experience for all who attend.
