Performing my own original music is a big deal... to me

This one is gonna be short and sweet, I promise. I am not one to pat myself on the back or boast and I hope I won't appear to be doing either of those things here, but I do have to acknowledge that I got over a hurdle that has been holding me back for a long time. I have been writing songs since the age of 17 (or so) and have been part of at least two bands that used many of my songs, but over the years I lost confidence in my writing ability and while I didn't stop writing altogether, I did stop performing my material and put plans for a second CD on the shelf.

Well tonight I put myself in the hot seat and played two sets of my own compositions at Scuppernong Books in downtown Greensboro in front of some very loving and supportive friends. I was nervous and made my share of mistakes, but I did it and can say I am glad I did. Judging from the response, at least the ones who heard me tonight were very clear that I should continue to play them anywhere I perform and that was more than I expected to hear. It is also the reason for the smile on my face as I type this. Tonight was a small thing by most standards perhaps, but it was a big deal for me. A big thank you goes out to Melody Watson who made this great poster for me.
